Reflecting on who we are

Who are we?

All humans, at some time in their lives, stop to reflect on one seemingly simple, yet vastly complex question: “Who am I?”

Biologically we are made up of many generations, holding in our genes their stories. Their wisdom and their experiences are carved into our cellular memory – thousands of years of living history impressed through the carbon atoms and strands of consciousness that reach into us and through us.

So, when we ask, “who are we”, as human beings, as families, as communities, as humanity, the answer comes from the depth of our history. The great prophets taught “I am, therefore you are, therefore we are.” It is a philosophy very familiar to those who live in Africa: umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu, sits at the very heart of Ubuntu.

Many ancient people spoke of the need to acknowledge that every individual being, whether an amoeba, a plant, an animal, crystal or human, has a divine place in the universe and when we are in place, aware of our being, we see that all of us are linked – all the kingdoms, every part of consciousness that makes us alive.

When asking the question “who am I” in relation to our very existence on the journey of life if becomes important to pay attention to the urging of Greek philosopher and teacher Socrates “man know thyself”.

Human and Divine

In living in accordance to the universal laws and principles we learn that the self that is human and the self that is divine are essential one, divided by time and space by various teachings, experiences and conditions, and reaffirmed by our own subconscious cognitive processes and associations.

Are you your thoughts, your past, your present, your future? You are all of these aspects because you came into conscious existence because the actions of a creator, a divine source, and therefore you are.

So, every day when you ask yourself who you are, take the time to reflect on your whole self, the divine self, that is in a body for this time and space. And find the we, find the connection to the circles of life that bring you alive. See the destiny star that you are, that you have always been and will always be.

The ladders of life within us are the stepping stones that we learn to integrate and embrace, living the strength and honouring and sharing the wisdom in enlightened ways.

Who are you?
Who are we?
Know thyself.
